하루의 끝과 새로운 시작이 교차하는 시간.‘여명’은 밤이 완전히 지나가지도, 낮이 온전히 시작되지도 않은 경계의 순간에서 출발한 한식 주점 프로젝트이다.

새벽은 가장 모호한 시간이다. 어둠과 빛은 명확히 분리되지 않고 서로를 천천히 침범하며, 밤의 잔상 위로 희미한 밝음이 겹쳐진다. 프로젝트는 이러한 시간의 흐름과 감각을 공간적 경험으로 치환하는 데 집중했다.

디자인은 한국 전통 건축 요소 중 ‘담’이 가진 개념에서 출발한다. 한국의 담장은 내부와 외부를 단절시키기 위한 경계라기보다, 시선과 기척, 빛과 그림자가 느슨하게 교차하는 완충의 장치에 가깝다. 완전히 닫히지도, 완전히 열리지도 않은 담장의 구조는 공간 사이에 은은한 연결성과 깊이를 형성한다.

‘여명’ 역시 공간을 명확히 구획하거나 강하게 분리하기보다, 경계가 흐려지는 경험을 중심으로 구성되었다. 영역은 벽이나 구조로 단절되기보다 빛의 농도와 재료의 변화, 시선의 깊이에 따라 자연스럽게 나뉜다. 제한된 광원은 어둠 사이로 천천히 번져가고, 반사되는 표면과 그림자는 공간의 레이어를 중첩시키며 현실과 환상이 교차하는 새벽의 감각을 형성한다.

재료와 디테일 또한 절제된 방식으로 접근했다. 한국적 요소를 직접적으로 재현하기보다, 담장의 수직적 리듬과 여백의 구조를 현대적인 소재와 단순화된 형태로 재해석했다. 짙은 톤의 마감과 낮은 조도의 간접조명은 공간의 밀도를 낮추고, 비워낸 여백 속에서 빛의 흐름과 감정의 온도가 더욱 선명하게 드러나도록 했다.

이곳은 단순히 술을 마시는 공간이 아니라, 하루의 감정과 시간을 잠시 머물게 하는 장면에 가깝다. 밤과 낮, 안과 밖, 현실과 환상처럼 서로 다른 감각은 완전히 분리되지 않은 채 공존하며, 이용자는 그 모호한 경계 사이를 천천히 경험하게 된다.

‘여명’은 가장 희미한 빛의 순간처럼, 절제된 방식으로 관계와 경계의 감각을 담아낸 공간이다.

DAWN : IN BETWEEN

‘Dawn’ is a Korean pub project conceived from the transitional moment where the end of night and the beginning of day quietly overlap.

Dawn is perhaps the most ambiguous moment in time. Darkness does not completely disappear, nor does light fully arrive; instead, the two gradually dissolve into one another, creating a subtle sense of tension and warmth. The project seeks to translate this temporal atmosphere into a spatial experience.

The design draws inspiration from the concept of the traditional Korean wall, or dam. In Korean architecture, walls are not merely devices of separation, but soft boundaries that allow light, presence, and atmosphere to pass through gently. Neither fully closed nor completely open, the layered structure of the wall creates a subtle sense of connection and depth between spaces.

Likewise, the spatial composition of ‘Dawn’ avoids rigid separation or clearly defined boundaries. Instead, transitions are formed through variations in light density, material texture, and visual depth. Dim, indirect lighting slowly permeates the darkness, while reflective surfaces and layered shadows overlap to evoke the fleeting sensation of dawn — a moment where reality and fantasy briefly coexist.

The material palette and detailing follow a similarly restrained approach. Rather than directly reproducing traditional motifs, the project reinterprets the rhythmic verticality and spatial emptiness of Korean architectural elements through contemporary materials and simplified forms. Dark-toned finishes and low ambient lighting reduce visual noise, allowing the movement of light and the emotional atmosphere of the space to emerge more distinctly.

More than a place for dining and drinking, the project is intended as a moment of pause — a space where emotions and time can quietly settle. Much like dawn itself, opposing conditions such as night and day, inside and outside, reality and illusion remain unresolved, gently overlapping within a softened boundary.

‘Dawn’ captures the depth of light, atmosphere, and connection through a restrained spatial language inspired by the ambiguous beauty of in-between moments.
